Ubisoft has announced a new Assassin’s Creed game with a twist. According to Eurogamer, the new game, titled Assassin’s Creed: Utopia, will have you building and managing cities instead of the usual running on buildings and killing people. The game will be set during America’s early colonial era, and will help players discover how the Assassins influenced history and help build the original thirteen colonies of America.

The game will be based around building a colony in the 17th century and watching it grow over 150 years. You will be able to get the first Assassins of the “New World” and will have them fight your friends in battles, or enlist their help to help defeat enemies in a “limited time epic battles”. Ubisoft has said that there will be no link between this game and Assassin’s Creed III except for the narrative elements. “There are no links between the games,” Assassin's Creed producer Andreane Meunier told Eurogamer. “But the narrative will lead into the AC3 narrative, since it's a kind of pre-era to the Assassin's Creed 3 era.”

Recently, Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed III will have an ongoing story in the multiplayer with monthly challenges. Ubisoft seems pretty ambitious here with the way it plans to execute the multiplayer of the game. The game is set to have monthly challenges that will progress the plot of the series alongside the modern-day segments of the single player. “Abstergo Entertainment will give you insights on the company's future initiatives by granting you access to files and information on products that will soon hit the market,” said Damien Kieken, Game Director at Ubisoft Annecy, in the interview. “As you progress in the game and level up your character, you access these files and videos. Every month you'll have new challenges to unlock new content that will continue the storyline throughout the year.”

The Assassin’s Creed series deals with a secret war that has lasted millennia between the Assassins and the Templars. The Assassins seek to fight for the free will of people, while the Templars seek to control them. The first game was set during the Holy Crusades in Jerusalem. Protagonist Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad would have to jump from rooftops and sneak into groups of people in order to find and assassinate his targets.

The second game was set during the Renaissance era in Florence. The main protagonist of the “II” series of games (which are Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations) is Ezio Auditore. The II series of games dealt with the evolution of Ezio as a character, who starts out as a revenge-driven teenager only to become a highly-skilled master of Assassins. Altaïr also makes an appearance in Revelation, showing the aged assassin’s last few days. The secondary protagonist of the series is Desmond Miles, who is accessing his “genetic memory” to live the lives of his Ancestors Altaïr and Ezio.

Assassin’s Creed: Utopia is set for a winter 2012 release, probably to coincide with the October 30 release of Assassin’s Creed III, and will be available on iOS and Android devices.
