A few days ago, it was reported that HTC was probably making a smartphone with a display that spans 5 inches. This would put the smartphone in direct competition with the recently unveiled Galaxy Note II from Samsung and the LG Optimus Vu. At that time, no details were available to confirm its existence, and it may well have been a prototype. As per a report by Engadget, this mysterious device could become a reality in the near future as it has recently stated that it has surfaced in a Verizon database.

The renowned tech based website not only speaks about an HTC smartphone but also reveals that a new Nokia may be in the works, and the device is named the Lumia 822. As per the report, the author, Brad Molen states, “We've been handed images of Verizon's device management system (DMD, for short) showing off a couple new devices: the Nokia Lumia 822 (in Gray and White) and the HTC 6435, which we've seen leaked as the potential Galaxy Note competitor. While this doesn't guarantee a surefire launch in any way, phones typically pop up in the DMD a few weeks prior to launch”.

The Samsung Galaxy Note has been one of the most successful smartphones from Samsung to-date and this is primarily due to its unique form factor. Due to the immense success of this handset, Samsung recently refreshed the model, and have added a larger screen along with a quad-core processor, making this smartphone even more desirable.

Samsung has thrown in a new feature that can potentially change the way mobile phones are used nowadays. Apart from the fact that it features an Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box and is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, the major talking point about the Galaxy Note II is that it features an all-new Air View feature. Samsung states that Air View allows users to hover with the S Pen over an email, S Planner, image gallery, or video to preview the content without having to open it. This feature enables users to quickly search and see more information in one view without screen transitions.

Here is a quick look at the highlighted features of the Samsung Galaxy Note II:

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 1280 x 720 pixel density
  • 4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Wi-Fi HT40, NFC
  • GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth v4.0 with USB 2.0 Host
  • 8 megapixel AF/ Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback, 1.9MP VT Camera, BSI front facing camera
  • 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, all with expandable support up to 64GB
  • 2GB RAM
  • MHL for AV out

Nokia recently announced a couple of Lumia smartphones and this model – the Lumia 822 – may be headed only to Verizon, but we certainly hope that this is not the case.
