Reports are emerging that the phased restoration has already begun in Japan with some users saying on gamrConnect that the Playstation Network is back online. We have no confirmation from Sony regarding its back up but various websites are claiming that users are able to connect. It is believed that the network would be up tomorrow in other regions which include North America. It seems that it won’t be long now before the PSN will be online in the rest of the world.

The end of the PlayStation Network and Qriocity saga may be finally here. Early this morning, Sony announced that some services of the network will be available this week. The services will begin regionally throughout the world with their security enhanced which they claim will provide better protection of personal information.

In the line of fire...

Phased restoration of PSN and Qriocity to begin this week

They specified that the preliminary phase of the roll out will not be restricted to the following –

  • Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation3 (PS3) and PSP (PlayStation Portable) systems
  • This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
  • Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
  • Access to account management and password reset
  • Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
  • PlayStation Home
  • Friends List
  • Chat Functionality

The security measures, along with others will include –

  • Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
  • Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
  • Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
  • Implementation of additional firewalls

Again Sony apologizes to the PSN users and says that there is a possibility that 10 million users credit card information may be leaked. Besides restoring the network Sony is going one step further by offering them free subscription of a month to PlayStation Plus and Qriocity and possibly some free software as well. This may come as some good news to all gamers as the outage has already lasted so long.
