The D2 came out all the way back in 2006 and after years of speculation, its successor has finally been announced. The Cowon D3 Plenue, however, is nothing like the D2 or the D2+ – much like how the X7 was nothing like the X5. The device will boast of a 3.7-inch capacitive AMOLED touch screen that will run at a resolution of 800×480. It will be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB variants that can have their storage capacity expanded via a MicroSD slot.

Cowon eats an Eclair

The real talking point has to be the Operating System the D3 will be running on – Android 2.1 Eclair. After experimenting with Linux variants and a Windows OS, this will be the first Cowon device featuring Google’s Android OS. Hopefully, it’ll also be the first Android device to feature BBE+ in any capacity whatsoever.

The D3 is expected to release only in Korea initially, but we’re confident it’ll make it to the rest of the world soon after.

UPDATE: Anythingbutipod forum member aznstriker92 has translated the full specsheet found on the D3 page on Cowon's Korean website. Without much further ado, here they are:
