If you’re thinking of buying WickedLeak’s monster smartphone, the Wammy Titan, you might want to hold off on that. We have learned that the company plans to release a new variant of the smartphone with the same specifications, but a massive upgrade to the processor.
We got in touch with a representative of the company, and while they couldn’t divulge the name of the new phone, we did manage to get some interesting information about it. The phone will cost around Rs 500 to Rs 700 more than the current price of the Wammy Titan.
Getting a quad-core upgrade soon
The specs of the phone are more or less the same as that of the Titan, which includes:
- 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 960 x 540
- 3G, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot
- 8 megapixel camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera
- Memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD
The processor is getting a major upgrade. The new processor, which is MediaTek’s MTK 6589 quad-core processor, is clocked at 1.2GHz. The graphics of the phone will be powered by a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. The CPU and GPU combination is set to be quite powerful and is stated to be just around 10-15 percent less efficient than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4.
With the rest of the phone essentially being the same as the Wammy Titan, we asked if consumers who own the original Titan can trade their devices in to get a new one and pay the difference—the answer was a resounding “no”. The process being too complicated was the reason cited.
The processor upgrade possible at such a low cost is mostly possible because as per the new Union Budget, chips can be imported without any duty levied on them.
The Titan was launched back in January. It is equipped with dual-SIM slots and 1GB of RAM. It has an internal memory of 4GB. The device comes with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
The device measures 144 x 89 x 12 mm and runs on a 2500 mAh battery that the company claims will provide up to 8 hours of talk time and 260 hours of standby time. The Wammy Titan is available in black and white colours for Rs 13,000.
If you found the Titan identical to Samsung's ambitious smartphone, the Galaxy Note II, be assured you're not the only one. If we were to go back by just a month, we had a similar thing to say about the company's Wammy Sensation, which looked identical to Samsung's Galaxy S III.
