The upgraded version of the original Galaxy Pop is coming soon. Online store seller, Flipkart has listed this item in their database and though we’re not too sure about its release, we do know that it’s going to be available, soon enough. The model number for this phone is the S5570i. So, what’s changed in this phone?

The earlier 600 MHz processor that we saw in the original phone has been replaced to include an 832 MHz processor and it comes with Froyo onboard, which is an absolute bummer, right now. It’s an old phone, but the speed increase may mean that Samsung could soon enough get Gingerbread to this phone. Other features include, 3G, a 3.14-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, a 3 megapixel primary camera, 164 MB of internal memory with support for expandable memory and their custom Touchwiz UI 3.0. It has a 1200 mAh battery, which might just suffice for a phone with a low display resolution screen. A proximity sensor and an accelerometer have been included, but there’s no ambient light sensor.

Worth a buy??

Here’s the remaining specs for the Galaxy Pop Plus S5570i:

  • 3.14-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 320 x 240 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • GPS with A-GPS support and Google maps
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 3 megapixel rear camera
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • Memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card
  • 3.5 mm handsfree socket

The phone is priced at Rs.8,330, which brings it in a similar price range to the Galaxy Y, the Spice Mi-350n and the Micromax A75 Superfone Lite. We did a comparison on those phones, so you can check that, out here. We quite liked the Spice phone at that price and though Samsung might have a brand value, these phones do have better features. Honestly, we’re not too excited about this upgraded version of the phone, since for the most part it is the same old Galaxy Pop with a slight processor bump.
