Ubisoft’s upcoming offering, Watch Dogs, recently released a trailer of its gameplay. Revolving around the city of Chicago in the not-so-distant future, the gameplay melds an action-packed game with a thought-provoking set of choices. Tempering this is a unique set of abilities that literally leaves the game's world at your fingertips.

Watch Dogs is set in a world where everything is connected via a central network run by mega corporations that interfaces with the internet. As the titular character, you play Aiden Pierce, a hacker who is out to fight the system and uses all the information that the network gives him to do so.

Might end up being frighteningly analogous to the real world

Seamless gameplay integrates with an open world setting.

It's clear from the trailer that the gameplay is quite simply breathtaking. An open world action adventure game, with the city carefully detailed, it clearly takes a lot from the earlier Ubisoft game, Assassin’s Creed, in terms of both character movement and the way the narrative unfolds. In this case, you find yourself in a trenchcoat and guns to boot as you go about unravelling the network. Here's a closer look at the video.

With a co-op mode announced, an excellent third-person action gameplay comes out as well, which is fast paced and racy. It’s clear that Ubisoft seems to be moving away from its golden equation of old school horseriding and building clambering, and moving towards a Grand Theft Auto-ish experience of the real world. Set to release in North America on November 19 and in Europe on November 22, we will have to wait and see if Watch Dogs achieves the kind of popularity that Assassin's Creed has gained. However, it definitely looks great and could be a great game for the next generation console.
