Zynga, the makers of Farmville and Cityville currently have the comfortable number one spot in Facebook games. However, Rovio Mobile boss Mikael Hed has said that the company is working on a Facebook (the final frontier) version of Angry Birds. Right now it's available or being made available for virtually every smartphone platform out there and after coming to the desktop, it's going to the internet. However, they will have to restructure the game to fit in with the fact that it's on a social networking site. The Facebook Director of Gaming Partnerships, Sean Ryan questioned the validity of having Angry Birds on Facebook saying that it “wouldn't make a lot of sense”.

The reason games like Farmville and Cityville work is because they allow personal achievement along with social interaction. Angry Birds so far is a single player game, and while you can compare scores in Game Center (for example), the social element it would need to have to be on Facebook is missing. With regard to this, Hed said that the Facebook version of Angry Birds will have features that no other platform has so far. If they do manage to pull it off and they have the success that they've had with mobile platforms (about 75 million downloads so far), Rovio could very well be poised to take over from Farmville and Cityville. So watch out, Zynga.
