In response to the flame the iPhone 4 got for its antenna issues, Steve Jobs called an emergency press conference. Here's what he had to say.
He first played a Youtube video which had a song mocking the iPhone 4. He then said that the iPhone isn't the only smartphone with antenna problems, or as he called it, 'Antennagate', Nokia and Motorola have it too. He then whipped out a Blackberry Bold 9700 and an HTC Droid Eris demonstrating that holding those phones in particular ways made their signal drop too, their drop was slower due to the algorithms they used.
He went on to say that 0.55% of the users who have the phone, registered complaints to Apple Care. Furthermore, he says that the iPhone 4 has a lower dropped call rate than the iPhone 3GS and a superior antenna. After going through a lot of data and showing the accuracy and investment in the testing space to stop looking like the bad guy, he finally got to the point of action. He says that the software update will make the fix, Apple will give out free cases to help the antenna problem and a refund to people who have already bought the case. Finally, if people are still unhappy, they can return their phones in an undamaged condition within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, restocking fee waived.
