We launched our first app on the iPad soon after our web launch. At that point our consideration was purely to have Firstpost, iPad, iPhone and mobile-web ready. We now have an updated version and here’s why:

With more than a year gone by, we’ve grown our product and learnt from it. A couple of things were clear to us about our iPad app.

One, that it must involve a fairly robust ‘reading’ experience. Therefore in this release you will see the following

— A rewind experience, symbolised by a reverse-of-refresh icon in the top right corner, that will allow you to read Firstpost content across seven days.

— Our ebooks are also downloadable to read even when you’re offline. These focus on the issue of the week, compiled as a downloadable book so that you can read through our rich views and news packages.

— The ability to save articles to enable you to read them later

— And a cleaner story experience, that teases related content

You can rewind Firstpost back seven days and also read articles later

Two, comments.

We received fairly consistent criticism for not incorporating our commenting on our apps, though it is available on mobile web. We heard you.

In this version, you can comment and all those comments will be synced to one place.

You will also notice that we have done away with a bottom navigation and moved to a top stories filter – this will let you filter through the sections with greater ease.

And finally, we’ve chosen a layout that gives you a visually rich display of our mix of views, news, live, video, blogs and photo posts all in one long scroll.

Do let us know what you think.

PS: the new android app and the new iPhone app will follow shortly.
