Well, it did take long for an official app, but better late than never, as Wikipedia has finally got its new Android application to the market. It’s the official Wikipedia app for Android, so users can get access to more than 20 million articles in 280 languages on their Android smartphones. The free encyclopaedia, arguably, is one of the most comprehensive and widely used reference work humans have ever compiled and it coming to Android will only make information and knowledge more accessible.

Here are a few of the features of the Wikipedia application:

  • Save article to read later or offline
  • Search articles nearby
  • Share articles using Android “Share” function
  • Read article in a different language
  • Full screen search

The application does seem quite nifty from the screenshots itself. Wikipedia for Android can be downloaded from here
