WordPress has been updated to version 3.5. The new version packs new features for users and developers alike, and has been given a complete facelift; the UI now has a minimalistic, easy to use look.
The newest version of the self-hosted blogging and CMS platform is nicknamed ‘Elvin’ in honour of the jazz drummer Elvin Jones, and has been tweaked to make it more user-friendly. The new version brings a 'completely re-imagined’ flow for the media manager to upload and arrange photos and galleries.
WordPress 3.5 Elvin impresses with its changes
WordPress gets the media management right this time around. Simple drag and drop, drag to reorder, and inline caption editing will make using WordPress for publishing very easy. “Media has long been a friction point and we’ve listened hard and given a lot of thought into crafting this new system,” said Matt Mullenweg, a Founding Developer of WordPress, in a blog post.
A new theme called Twenty Twelve has been released with WordPress 3.5. A whole new Dashboard greets users, the interface of which has been streamlined with a focus on making the most used and important features available.
Tumblr imports have been restarted with this update on WordPress, and the site will now support Instagram images, and Soundcloud and SlideShare embeds too. Goodies have been stuffed inside this new update for developers as well.
The most important change made to WordPress, is support for Retina displays. The UI is Retina-ready with impressive high resolution graphics and a new colour picker. Since Retina displays are the way to go, this move will help the WordPress site immensely.
Earlier in October, Apple introduced a new version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro featuring a Retina Display and all-flash storage in a new compact design.
As per an official statement by Apple, the Retina display of the new MacBook Pro packs in more than 4 million pixels into its 13-inch display, which is nearly twice the number of pixels in an HD television. At 227 pixels per inch (ppi), the Retina display’s pixel density is so high the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels at a normal viewing distance. This makes images look sharp and text looks like it does on a printed page. With four times the pixels of the current 13-inch MacBook Pro, users can view and edit video in pixel-accurate HD and see a new level of detail in high resolution images. Apple claims the 13-inch Retina display uses IPS technology for a 178-degree wide viewing angle and has 75 percent less reflection and 29 percent higher contrast than the current generation.
