E3 2011 was a snoozefest with Kinect and casual gaming dominating much of the show. However all that could change this year when Microsoft and Sony unveil successors to the Xbox360 and PS3 respectively. Apparently site MCV got a tip from an industry insider that Microsoft is priming an announcement for the Xbox720 (or whatever it’ll officially be called) this E3 and if that happens, Sony wouldn’t like to left behind. We’ve been hearing rumours of new variants for both these consoles since a while now so it won’t be surprising if this goes down. However videogame analyst, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities seems to think otherwise as he feels there’s a zero percent chance that Sony would announce the PlayStation 4 this year.
What lies in store for E3 this year?
Last year Nintendo also made it clear that they would unveil the Wii U in some capacity at E3 this year. If they do, this would be the first time all three companies bring new hardware to the table in the same show. Even though Nintendo announced the Wii U at E3 last year, they’ve still maintained a high level of secrecy regarding tech specs, price and software support.
