Looks like the Sony Ericsson has got the drop on the rest of the players in the Android market by sporting their new XPERIA Arc touchscreen device with Android 2.4. Although the device was in-show at CES this year it was seen running a standard Gingerbread version i.e. Android 2.3. 2.4 will also be called Gingerbread though, just like Android 2.0 and 2.1 were both dubbed Eclair. GSMArena wasn't too specific about what the update will bring to the table but one report did mention that performance was enhanced.
Some of the additions with Gingerbread 2.4 could include –
- a preloaded videochat option
- Noise reduction for calls
- a few new animations to UI navigation
It’s not much but I’m sure we’ll hear more before Google finally clues us in on when the update will be released. The XPERIA Arc prototype that was caught in the wild with this version might not come with Gingerbread 2.4 out of the box, but that too is yet to be confirmed.
