Popular e-mail service provider, Yahoo! has made significant edits to the clauses in its terms and conditions. As per the latest changes, Yahoo! has helped itself with the rights that would let it snoop through the personal email records of its users. According to Yahoo!, an access to the email records of the users was required to block all spam mails that the users were bombarded with, and thereby make sure that only the relevant advertisements reached the users. The content scanned would also include those from their above mentioned mail service, Yahoo! Mail and the equally popular messenger service, Yahoo! Messenger.

However, Which? Computing took serious offence to these new developments, BBC reported. According to Sarah Kidner from Which? Computing, Yahoo! was ‘blatantly intruding the privacy of its users’ by laying out such terms and conditions. To which Yahoo! retorted back, clarifying that the users will be provided an option to opt out of the service, if they wished to. Those complying with the new clauses would then start receiving more relevant ads on their account.
