Tired of only hashtagging your vintage-filtered images? Instagram has added a tagging feature to its Android and iOS apps that allow you to tag your friends in images you upload to the photo sharing app.
Called “Photos of You,” the feature will let you add names to faces as easily as you add hashtags to images. “Your captions and hashtags capture the “what?” and your Photo Map answers the “where?” but until today we’ve never quite been able to answer the “who?” Instagram wrote in a blog post announcing the feature.
When you’re uploading images now, you will be prompted to add tags to your images. You can tag people you follow on Instagram to your images. When you’re adding tags, you can also move the tag around and add more of them before finally processing the image.
Photos of you will now show up in your profile. Neat, innit?
The best part about this feature is that unlike photo tagging on parent company’s site Facebook, only you can add tags to your images, so you have complete control over your photos. No unnecessary stranger presence and spam here!
On your profile, there will now be a “Photos of You” section where images you’ve been tagged in will show up. When someone tags you in an Instagram image, you will receive a notification too. As of now, images you’ve been tagged in will only be available to you. It will become public starting May 16. Instagram says that it has given a long private duration to make sure users get used to this feature.
Understandably, privacy concerns are on most Instagram users’ minds. The service has made sure that you can fiddle around plenty with your settings. If you’re apprehensive about the images that will show up on your profile, you can always adjust it in a way that they will only be available if you approve of them.
