ZOTAC International, a global innovator of graphics cards, mainboards and mini-PCs has announced the GeForce GTX 560 SE. The new ZOTAC GeForce GTX 560 SE gives gamers a taste of stunning 1080p gaming on a budget. The new card is essentially a stripped down version of the original GTX 560, but with fewer shaders and a lower memory bandwidth. The exact pricing for this card is not yet known, but going by the pricing of the GTX 560, the new SE variant from ZOTAC should be closer or under the Rs.10,000 price bracket. Here, it competes directly with AMD’s HD 6850.
For those on a budget
The ZOTAC GTX 560 SE only has 288 shaders, whereas the standard GTX 560 features 336 shaders. The memory bandwidth has also been cut down from 256-bit to 192-bit. Thankfully, ZOTAC have kept the 1GB of GDDR5 memory and to compensate for the slower memory bus, have bumped up the speed from 2200MHz to 3828MHz. The core clock speed has also been reduced a bit to 746MHz, but a little overclocking should easily be able to bring it up to the standard edition. In terms of connectivity, you get two dual-link DVI ports, HDMI and DisplayPort. It’s a dual slot card, with the entire PCB sealed off and a blower-styled fan at one end to channel hot air directly outside the case. This seems like a decent option, provided the price is right. Given how most games today are all going multi-platform, the GTX 560 SE should easily handle most of them, even at Full HD resolutions. ZOTAC bundles along a TrackMania 2 Canyon 3-Day game pass.
The GTX 560 SE will also support SLI (up to two cards), in case you feel the need to add another one. Another little odd design choice here is the placement of the power connectors, which aren’t at the end of the card as usual, but rather towards the middle. We’re not sure what made them place it there, perhaps so that it would be easier to install the power plugs in case of smaller cases where the hard drive connectors could get in the way. Expect to see this in your local hardware stores soon.
