ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, announced today that it will release a next-generation high-speed 4G Wi-Fi router in cooperation with Japanese operator SoftBank. The router, called the SoftBank 102Z, was developed by ZTE and will be available in August. Its sleek design resembles an ultra-slim mobile phone. It has a download speed of upto 76Mbps on SoftBank’s 4G AXGP high-speed network and can support ten connecting terminal devices, simultaneously, making it ideal for home networking. The router also has a lithium ion battery with a capacity of 2800mAh and seven hours of battery life. ZTE is also committed to providing better 4G services in India and with Airtel being amongst the first in the country to support their new LTE terminals, it shouldn’t be long till they launch the router here as well.

Bringing 4G networks to India

The ZTE-designed SoftBank 4G AXGP high-speed network is illustrative of ZTE’s innovation in 4G. Its expansion in Japan is due in part to its R&D and application capabilities. In India, Cui Liangjun, ZTE India CEO, revealed that the company is determined at building a stronger LTE 4G ecosystem in India. “LTE offers a scintillating experience for mobile broadband users and participates in the country's economic growth by supporting several government initiatives and schemes in sectors like health education and governance,” said Cui Liangjun. Abhay Savargaonkar, Chief Technology Officer – mobile services, Bharti Airtel points out that the major drivers for LTE and its superiority were lowest cost per bit, use over a wide range of spectrums and flexibility regarding bandwidth. He believes that LTE is the only technology that will sustain the level of telecommunication demand in future.

ZTE was the first company to release 1.9GHz equipment and solutions in 2011. On May 17, ZTE launched a large scale TD-LTE network in Guangzhou, China. This network can provide wireless data coverage to the transportation and safety surveillance sectors, high-speed media streaming, video conferencing and real-time news delivery at speeds up to 100mbps. As of Q1 2012, ZTE had concluded 30 LTE commercial contracts and over 100 trial networks with leading operators.
