ZTE smartphones may not have the same international standing as fellow Chinese company Huawei or even Lenovo, but the company has a good following in its home country and there’s a new smartphone in the works that could just earn it some more international street cred.
Meet the ZTE Geek or ZTE U988S, a smartphone that leaked earlier through China’s TENAA certification database. Now, the company has decided to share some images of the phone on Sina Weibo. The company also confirmed that the phone will launch on carrier China Mobile and will be the first Tegra 4 smartphone. The quad-core chipset’s CPU will be clocked at 1.8GHz, making it one of most powerful processors in the market. The phone will have 2GB of RAM, according to the regulatory filing revealed earlier.
ZTE Geek is looking good in pink
It will have the same 5-inch LCD that graced the Grand S and will also share its 1,920 x 1,080 resolution making this a full-HD phone. The Geek has a similar design as the Grand S, with a very compact looking body and what looks like soft-touch polycarbonate. The front-facing camera has been dialled down to 1-megapixel from 2-megapixel and the primary camera is an 8-megapixel unit. Of course, this one is specific to China Mobile's network, so if the Geek does get an international release, the specs might be revised.
We know that the company is preparing to launch a slew of smartphones in India and will be unveiling its portfolio later this month. Let’s hope India gets a taste of the latest ZTE smartphones.
