Zynga have released an Android version of Words with Friends, months after the iOS version came out. The popular Scrabble clone is now finally available for Droiders.
“We wrote Words from the ground up with Android in mind,” said Zynga Senior Engineer Jason Tomlinson in an interview. “For instance, because there’s so many different resolutions across Android devices, screen size compatibility is a serious issue.”
The Zynga team worked on Words, building it completely from scratch and making it compatible with nearly every version of Android. The new app supports versions 1.6 through 2.3 – Donut to Gingerbread. It will even support Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the tablet-optimized version of the operating system that is due to come out soon. If this app does well, it could be safe to assume there’ll be other similar cross-platform apps releasing in the near future.
