ZyXEL Communications have announced the launch of a new home router product – the NBG5715, a simultaneous dual-band wireless N media router. The NBG5715 has three dual-band antennas that utilize Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology to provide a data transfer rate of around 450 Mbps over dual networks. So, for example, web surfing can be enabled over the 2.4 GHz band, while video streaming can be performed over the 5 GHz band simultaneously, without any interference between the two.

The ZyXEL NBG5715 also has four Gigabit Ethernet ports and two built-in ‘NetUSB’ ports that allow home users to share stored content in USB devices over the home network. According to ZyXEL, the new router also consists of a ‘SmartRange’ technology that allows extensive wireless coverage. Over the wireless connection provided by the NBG5715, content such as data, photos and recorded video footage can be printed out or played back on high-definition display systems. However, the exact circumference over which the router can function satisfactorily hasn’t been disclosed. Also, due to growing cyber security concerns, five IPSec VPN tunnels have been built-in to help protect the home network from malicious attacks when processing various applications over different protocols.

The ZyXEL Router does provide efficient bandwidth utilization, but it will be beneficial only if it’s released at an affordable price for home users. More details can be viewed on ZyXEL’s home page or in the video below.
