Western Digital’s WD 30EZRS certainly looks an attractive storage solution with an enormous 3 TB capacity and a 64 MB cache. The new 3TB internal hard drive for desktops looks like a good option for those who want to store a ton of movies, software, games and images. While a large capacity might sound great, can you expect equally impressive performance?
The 3.5-inch internal HDD is like every standard HDD in terms of design. The drive uses a SATA2 interface with a bandwidth of 3Gb/s.

Kicking off the performance scores, the WD 3 TB hard drive recorded a drive index of 93.9 MB/s. While these are our synthetic benchmark scores, we also tried some file copy tests with assorted and sequential sets of 2 GB and 4 GB of data. In one test where we transferred files from this hard drive to our Velociraptor, we got read speeds of 96.45 MB/s for a 2 GB assortment file and write speeds of 78.86 MB/s for the same. The other test was where we created partitions in the hard drive itself and transferred file sets between them. Here we got a read speed of 72.70 MB/s and a really poor write speed of 28.84 MB/s.
The WD 3 TB Hard Drive is a decent performer overall. A capacity of 3 TB is pretty good for heavy data users who are on the lookout for storing movies and more. However, at a price of Rs. 10,700 makes the WD30EZRS very expensive when it comes to price per GB comparison. A typical 2TB desktop drive sells for an approximate Rs. 5,000, which means you’d be better off buying two such hard drives if capacity is what you want.
